Moninda Marube made it two for two in Santa Barbara on Saturday, returning to triumph in his second straight Santa Barbara International Marathon.
The Kenyan edged out Michael Wardian, who crossed the finish line less than 10 seconds behind Marube. The winning time was 2 hours, 22 minutes and 28 seconds, which is also a new course record.
Laura Turner’s time of 3:03:26 was the best amongst females and 22nd-best overall.
After a night of heavy rain and gusty winds, over 3500 competitors running were relieved to avoid wet weather and experience decent conditions.
The course started near Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta and made its way across town to the finish line at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium.
The half-marathon also had a tight finish as only three seconds separated winner Christian Hesch and Joshua Glaab. Liana Bernard captured the women’s title with a time of 1:20:40 (13th overall).
