UCSB’s Madueno received national recognition

Junior Josue Madueno was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week after helping lead UCSB to a 3-2 win over Providence in an NCAA Tournament Second Round game on Sunday night at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.

Madueno, who garnered All-Big West Honorable Mention accolades last week, posted a goal and an assist in the victory. He assisted Luis Silva’s goal in the sixth minute and in the 41st minute, he gave UCSB a 2-0 lead. Madueno made a nice move off the dribble, beat his defender and shot the ball to the lower left corner from 12 yards out. Later in the match, he fed the ball to Silva, who assisted Dom Sarle’s game-winning goal in the 72nd minute.

The No. 15 seeded Gauchos have advanced to the NCAA Tournament Third Round and will travel to Omaha, Nebraska to face No. 2 seed Creighton on Sunday, Nov. 27. The game is slated for an 11 am start (Pacific Time).

Sunday’s game will be broadcast live on AM 1290 KZSB, and Creighton will provide a live video broadcast.
