Manny Hernandez, a sophomore linebacker for SBCC, has been chosen first-team All-American Pacific Conference in football.
Three other Vaqueros made the elite squad. Sophomore tackle Kenny Ruiz and freshman tight end Tyson Heller were second-team offensive picks. Heller caught 21 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a touchdown.
Freshman safety Mitch Nelson, who had 37 tackles in his last three games, was a second-team defensive choice.
Hernandez, a former San Marcos High standout, led the state in tackle average at 12.9. He missed two games due to injury and finished with 103 tackles in eight games. Nelson was No. 10 in Southern Cal with 90 tackles, led the team with three interceptions and recovered two fumbles.
Coach Craig Moropoulos said Hernandez is being recruited by many schools, including the University of Indiana and New Mexico State.
