SBCC had a tough time on the boards in Friday night’s season opener and Glendale took advantage to post a 78-62 men’s basketball win in the Glendale Tip-Off Tournament.
The visiting Vaqueros led 36-35 at intermission but shot just 32 percent in the second half. Glendale won the rebound battle, 46-22.
Mike Hansen and Alex DiManno scored 13 apiece for SBCC while Anthony Williams had eight.
”The key was our inability to keep them off the boards,” said coach Morris Hodges. “We were down three in the second half, then took some quick 3-point shots and that led to runouts for them.”
Glendale stretched a 47-44 lead to 66-56 with five minutes remaining. SBCC was down 68-60 when the Vaqueros fouled a player on a 3-point try with one second on the shot clock. He made all three free throws for an 11-point lead.
SBCC shot 37 percent in the opening half and hit 5-13 from long range. Glendale shot 50 percent for the game.
The Vaqueros will take on Victor Valley in Saturday’s third-place game at 1 p.m.
