After two double-digit wins to open the season, San Marcos’ boys basketball team was challenged by Burbank in a 56-53 setback to the Bulldogs.
Burbank held a nine-point lead with three minutes to go but the Royals fought back and brought themselves to within on point after a late Chad Ridenour 3-pointer. Burbank gave the Royals the ball back after missing the front end of a 1-and-1, but San Marcos couldn’t drop another basket through.
“It was back-and forth all game,” said Royals head coach Jarrod Bradley. “We just ran out of time.”
Junior Kevin Hempy was San Marcos’ top scorer with 17. Thayer White contributed a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Ridenour tallied 14 points and 4 steals. Ridenour is now averaging more than three steals a game.
