Caitlin Connor rallied from a 0-3 deficit and pulled out a 6-4 victory to help spark Laguna Blanca to a 14-4 win over visiting El Rancho in a CIF Division 4 wild-card tennis match on Tuesday.
“That was huge,” Laguna coach Jonny Sapp said of Connor’s comeback.
The win advances the Owls into the main draw. They’ll play at Santa Ynez on Thursday.
Connor and Bryn Jewett both swept their singles sets and the doubles of Lauren Conk-Juliana Ozur and Helena Davila-Elise Scheurmann also went 3-0 on Tuesday.
“The girls went out there and started off strong and kept their focus through out the whole match,” said Sapp. “Helena Davila and Elise Scheurmann were down 2-4 and came back and won 7-6 … enormous. The girls are improving in their mental toughness and that’s what got us the win today.”
Sapp said the team is playing with confidence.
“We were the underdog team in our league and pulled it through to make CIF. We are on a four-game win streak and are hoping to keep the streak going,” he said.
