Rain in Santa Barbara this weekend will surely affect several sporting events, but KEYT has revised its forecast today to say less rain is expected than before.
The threat of rain led SBCC to pre-emptively postpone its annual Holiday Tennis Classic until next weekend. Tennis is especially vulnerable to the elements, and Saturday’s CIF tennis matches for Santa Barbara High and Carpinteria High, plus UCSB’s Tennis Classic, are in question.
The largest event of the weekend is the Santa Barbara International Marathon and Half-Marathon, which is also one of the largest annual sporting events in Santa Barbara.
It’s also a rain or shine event. Over 2,000 runners will compete in the two races and the experience will no doubt depend on the weather conditions.
The current forecast calls for sporadic rain showers arriving Friday evening and lasting through the day on Saturday. Rainfall totals are not expected to be substantial.
The showers may arrive during tonight’s Bishop Diego and Carpinteria football game, meaning spectators and players could be in for a cold, wet night. The two schools meet at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium in their annual rivalry football game.
No matter what the rainfall totals are, a cold front is associated with the weather pattern so expect cooler temperatures at any sporting event in town this weekend.
