Hueneme’s Myla Bautista racked up 26 points against San Marcos on Wednesday, leading the Vikings to a 54-38 victory over the Royals.
San Marcos trailed only 37-30 at the end of the third quarter, but Bautista took control after that. She tallied 15 of the Vikings’ 17 points in the final quarter to close out San Marcos.
“Hueneme had some pressure on us,” said San Marcos’ new head coach Devin Uyesaka. “They forced us into some bad passes.”
Sophomore point guard Hope Morrison nailed three 3-pointers and converted all four of her free throws for a team-high 15 points.
“We’re a young team,” Uyesaka said. “Even though we have seven seniors on the team, not many of them have varsity experience.”
The Royals continue play in the Fillmore Tournament on Thursday with a game against Bishop Diego.
