STANFORD – The UCSB men’s and women’s cross country teams both competed in the highly anticipated NCAA Division 1 West Regional’s on Saturday at Stanford University. The Gaucho men finished tenth out of twenty-five teams while the women finished nineteenth out of thirty-one teams.
Senior Anthony Masci and sophomore Jeremy Acosta finished the 10K race consecutively in 31st and 32nd with the same time, both finishing the race in a time of 30:13. Junior Bhavic Kanzaria finished 82nd in a time of 31:06 with Junior, teammate, Juan Paredes finishing not too far behind him in 88th place in a time 31:12. Senior Doug Whicard and sophomore Bryce Rausa finished consecutively as well in 102nd and 103rd place in times of 31:33 and 31:34, just shy of each other. Senior Andrew Pilavjian finished 119th out of 172 runners, with a time of 31:54, helping the Gauchos secure a tenth place finish. The team scored 322 points as a whole and finished with a team time of 154:17 1:20.
Senior Andrea Jacobs finished 1st for the Gaucho women, and 44th overall in the women’s 6K race, with a time of 21:25 while sophomore Dani Moreno finished 89th overall and 2nd for the Gauchos in a time of 22:05. Junior Sarah Vitug finished 103rd in a time of 22:12, whereas Gaucho teammates Ashley Beechan, Callie Mulgannon, Christine Cooperstein, and Bailey Miller finished 111th, 113th, 138th and 139th helping the Gauchos to reach nineteenth place. The team as a whole scored 456 points and had an overall time of 110:21 0:55.
The Gauchos will resume to action on November 21, where they will compete in the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana. This will be the last scheduled meet for the Gauchos on the 2011 Cross Country Season.
