SBCC erupted for four second-half goals to blank West L.A. 4-0 on Friday and claim its first WSC women’s soccer championship.
The No. 3-ranked Vaqueros completed the regular season with records of 16-2 and 11-1 in the WSC North. They’ll share the crown with Ventura if the Pirates win on Friday.
“I’m so happy for the girls and the school because this is our first conference title,” said seventh-year coach John Sisterson after his 90th win (90-30-27, .704). “We were disappointed to be scoreless at halftime but we knew it was just a matter of time.”
Jenna Rubin opened the scoring the 48th minute, converting from the top of the box on a pass from Katie Voss. Jessica Domenichelli made it 2-0 in the 55th minute, putting in a rebound after Sylvia Ibarra headed a ball off the post.
Domenichelli has scored in seven straight games and boosted her single-season school record to 27 goals. She’s the No. 2 scorer in California with 65 points.
In the 73rd minute, Morgan Crumpley scored a header on a corner kick from Jo Lawlor. Tamara Ivanovic got the last goal in the 82nd minute on another corner from Lawlor.
Santa Barbara has won its last seven games by a combined 35-2.
It was the second WSC title in two days for Sisterson, who also coaches the SBCC men. It’s the first time that one school has won both the men’s and women’s WSC titles in the same year.
The Vaqueros will open the Southern Cal playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 19.
