The Santa Barbara High girls tennis team continued to show why it received the top seed in the CIF Division II playoffs, defeating Cypress 13-4 in a match that was slightly shortened due to rain.
Despite a long trip down to Cypress, the Dons started fast as the singles swept the opening round 3-0. Santa Barbara fought through the rain and the cold and were sparked by a tiebreaker victory from Aurora Garrison over Cypress’ top singles player.
“That kind of energy that it created was wonderful going through to the second round,” head coach Steve Geremia said.
The doubles teams, featuring Channel League champions Madison Hale and Megan Grant, were dominant and did not lose a game.
“As a group, I can’t ask any more from our doubles,” Geremia said.
Santa Barabara is now in the quarterfinals and will play the winner of Los Alamitos and Westridge on Tuesday.
