Dos Pueblos’ girls basketball team fell to Valencia in its season debut on Monday in a 73-68 non-league decision.
The Chargers led by as many as 16 in the first half before Valencia settled in.
“In the second quarter they started chiping away,” said Chargers head coach Jelani Hicks, who is starting his second season as DP’s head coach.
The two teams were tied at the start of the fourth quarter. A 6-0 run from Valencia put them in the lead for good.
Chiara DiMarco led the Chargers in the scoring column with 21 while Jessica Escalante tallied 20. DiMarco also collected seven steals and Escalante five. Talitha Draper recorded totals of 10 points and six rebounds.
Valencia’s Kalia Summerlin was the game’s top scorer with 30.
