Cate’s girls finished second and the boys took third at the Condor League Cross Country Championships at Midland in Los Olivos on Wednesday.
Thacher swept the team titles.
Senior co-captain Adrian Walsh led the Cate girls with a strong sixth-place finish, covering the 3-mile course in 20:57 on a hot day. Fellow seniors and captains Denali Tietjen (13th, 21:20) and Charlotte Bowles (14th, 21:21) weren’t far behind and were the key to a strong finish for the Rams.
Junior Grace Dickman had another good race, finishing 17th in 23:00, and sophomore Luisa Ilvento, who has been injured most of the season, returned with an 18th place in 23:17.
In the boys’ race, the freshman/senior duo of Jeff Acheampong and Bill Pomeransl led Cate to third. Acheampong medaled with a 10th-place finish in 18:09, with Pomeransl (11th, 18:23) right behind him. Sophomores Andrew Robbins (14th, 18:34) and Andrew Sinclair (15th, 18:35) made up the middle of the Cate pack, while freshman Daniel Yeom rounded out the Cate scoring with a 19:40 clocking for 31st place.
Both Cate teams qualified for the first round of the Division 5 Southern Section Championships at Mt SAC on Nov. 12.
