Cate guessed right on a coin-flip with Thacher and earned the Condor League’s No. 2 spot for the CIF girls volleyball playoffs on Wednesday.
The Rams lost to Thacher 25-19, 25-15, 15-25, 25-16 in the league finale, leaving the teams tied for second place at 4-3.
“They played great,” Cate coach Greg Novak said of Thacher. “They handed it to us; you could tell they wanted it.
“Thirty seconds later we’re screaming because we won the coin-flip.”
Cydney Pierce pounded 17 kills to lead Cate, and Emma Birrell added seven.
