Bishop Diego’s Charlie Dentzel capped a perfect league season by winning the individual boys title and Carpinteria swept the team crowns at the Frontier League cross country championships in windy and hot Malibu on Wednesday.
Dentzel ran 18:03 on a hilly 5-kilometer course. He won all three league meets and earned a spot in the CIF Prelims.
Carpinteria’s boys, led by third-place David Cornejo (19:11) scored 22 points to beat out second-place Malibu (55). Bishop Diego (60) took third and Santa Clara (113) fourth.
The Warriors demonstrated great pack running, placing runners third through sixth and in ninth place. Those runners were Lalo Garcia (4th, 19:15), Adam Ughoc (5th, 19:31), Giovanni Rodriiguez (6th 19:32) and Ray Garcia, (9th, 19:42).
“I thoughn they ran really well for the weather conditions,” Carpinteria coach Angel Silva said.
Bishop Diego’s other runners were Matt Hammond (11th, 20:32), Matt Grimes, (12th, 20:39), Jonathon Ford (20th, 21:42) and Ryan Inglehart, (32nd, 23:15).
