Emily Banas recorded 16 kills on Wednesday and Heidi Van Den Oever had 13 as SBCC swept L.A. Mission 25-9, 25-21, 25-15 in a WSC women’s volleyball match at Sylmar.
It was the fourth straight win and 10th in 11 matches for the Vaqueros (12-9, 9-1 WSC North), who are ranked No. 15 in Southern Cal. Santa Barbara rallied from deficits of 5-1 and 14-10 in the second set.
Rachel Stehly collected five kills while Bianca Castro, the No. 7 hitter in the conference at .331, added four kills and five blocks. Mariah Mathews had 38 assists and Mackenzie Mexico dug 10 balls.
“We played very well,” said assistant coach Armen Zakarian. “They had a minor injury in the middle and we really took advantage to hit for a high percentage.”
The Vaqueros will honor their sophomores on Tuesday in the final regular-season home match against Hancock.
