In a historic meet for the Dos Pueblos cross country team, Bryan Fernandez won the boys race, Addi Zerreners won the girls race, and both teams finished first overall at the County Championships in Lompoc.
Zerrener finished her race in 17:40 the second fastest time ever at the Lompoc River Course. Other impressive times for the girls were Elaine McClure (3rd-18:45), Emma Redick (11th-19:46), Cheryl Wilson (14th-20:07),Camille Patterson (15th-20:09), Meredith Urschel (19th-20:24) and Haley Peterson (31st-20:53). McClure’s time was her personal best by 30 seconds.
Fernandez ran his race in 15:19 while other notable times for the boys were Max Davis (5th-15:46), John Greening (9th-16:06), Cole Smith (12th-16:11), Ben York (13th-16:14), Tyler Bradford (14th-16:19), and Dylan Zukin (31st – 16:43). These times helped the boys with the County Championships for the first time in 10 years.
Dos Pueblos will compete next at the League Finals on Thursday in Ventura.
OTHER LOCAL RESULTS
Santa Barbara finished sixth overall in boys competition, and ninth overall in the girls. James Scheuermann finished fourth with a time of 15:41. Gustavo Ballo ran a personal best 16:25 and finished 21st overall.
For the girls, Ellen Upton finished 34th with a personal best time of 21:02.
Cate finished sixth overall in girls competition, and was unable to keep up with the pack. Adrian Walsh finished 16th in the girls race with a a time of 20:10 and was followed by Denali Tietjen who finished 26th in 20:40, and Charlotte Bowles who finished 30th in 20:45.
San Marcos received impressive times in the boys race from Isaac Wright who finished 15th with a time of 16:22 and Joe Logan who finished with the same time in 16th. Six of the seven Royals who raced for the boys set personal records. Rocio Pacheco ran an excellent race for the girls and finished in fifth with a time of 18:51.
