Vanguard scored in the second overtime to beat Westmont 1-0 in a GSAC women’s soccer match on Saturday.
Lindsey Holman-Kelly headed a free kick into the upper left corner of the goal to beat the Warriors.
Westmont falls to 4-3 in the GSAC and 9-5 overall. Vanguard improves to 3-3-1 and 11-3-1.
MEN’S SOCCER
Vanguard erupted for four goals in a 14-minute span in the second half and beat Westmont 4-0 in a GSAC men’s soccer match in Costa Mesa.
Kevin Cornwall scored the first of his two goals in the 51st minute to get the Lions roaring.
Vanguard outshot the Warriors 20-12.
Westmont falls to 3-9-1, 2-4-1 in the GSAC. Vanguard is 11-5, 5-2
BIOLA CROSS COUNTRY INVITE
The Warrior men’s and women’s teams both finished second at the race among GSAC schools.
The Westmont women were edged by Biola, 43-47. Kate Stuart of the Warriors was second overall in the 5-k race in 18:16, and Danica Rosendale finished seventh in 18:43.6.
In the 8-k men’s race, the Warriors demonstrated good pack running. Jake Jeanson (25:26.8) and Matthew Day (25:28.9) finished sixth and seventh, and Matt Organista (25:37.1) and Evan Bradford (25:45.1) were 9th and 10th.
Team champion. The Master’s, had the top two runners (John Gilbertson 24:24.1 and Anthony Pizzo 24:34.4).
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Ciara Turner had 10 kills and hit .368, but no other Westmont player hit in double figures in the 25-18, 25-16, 25-19 loss at Vanguard.
The Warriors fall to 7-13, 5-7 in the GSAC, while Vanguard is 19-8, 8-4.
