Ashley Correa and Lindsey Smith swept Golden State Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors for No.18 Westmont (11-5, 6-3 GSAC).
Correa, a 5-7 junior forward was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Smith, a 5-9 sophomore goalkeeper earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The Warriors received the honors after two victories last week. On Tuesday Westmont defeated Fresno Pacific on the road by a score of 3-1. Then on Saturday, Westmont handed No. 3 Point Loma Nazarene its first loss of the year; shutting out the Sea Lions 2-0.
Correa produced two assists against Fresno Pacific, connecting with freshman Christine Adams for both scores. On Saturday, she delivered the game winner against Point Loma Nazarene in the eighty-first minute. Correa took a free kick from just outside the box and shot the ball past a wall of five Sea Lion defenders and into the side netting.
Smith earned her fourth shutout of the year against Point Loma and tallied nine saves in Westmont’s victory over Fresno Pacific. As the Warriors’ guardian of the goal, Smith has posted a goals-against-average of 0.99 this season.
Tuesday, Westmont begins postseason play in the opening round of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament. As the number four seed, Westmont will host fifth-seeded and13th-ranked Concordia (13-4-1, 5-3-1) at 3 p.m. at Thorrington Field.
