Andrew Vignolo’s huge day for Laguna Blanca’s 8-man football team on Saturday almost resulted in an upset victory for the Owls, who ended up falling to visiting Hesperia Christian 46-40.
Vignolo torched Hesperia for 173 yards receiving and three touchdowns, the last of which gave the Owls a late lead.
But Hesperia Christian was able steal a win away from Laguna with a score in the final minute.
Owls starting quarterback Brandon Bickett threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another but got hurt in the second half. Freshman Stephan McCaffrey stepped in and threw for two more TDs.
Joey Eckert also recorded a receiving TD for the Owls and rushed for 22 yards. Logan Elder also scored on a rushing play in the first half.
