Rodrigo Perez headed in the equalizer early in the second half on Friday afternoon and SBCC earned a 2-2 men’s soccer tie at Oxnard in a WSC first-place showdown.
The Vaqueros, ranked No. 7 in Southern Cal and 16th in the state, are 9-1-4 overall and 6-1-1 in the WSC. They remained a point behind first-place Oxnard (9-1-4, 6-0-2) with six matches to play.
Roberto Santana opened the scoring in the 10th minute by heading in a corner kick from Jordan Tabor. The Condors, ranked No. 4 in the state, took a 2-1 halftime lead with goals in the 21st and 42nd minutes.
Juan Diaz Casallas set up the game-tying goal by Perez with a solid cross from the back line.
“We had chances in the second half, including one that was kicked off the (goal) line in the 88th minute,” said coach John Sisterson. “We gave a good performance in the second half. It was important for us not to lose today, to keep the pressure on Oxnard.”
SBCC completes a three-game road trip on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game at Glendale.
