Emily Wisma shot 78 on Sunday and Haley True posted an 80 to lead SBCC to third place after the opening round of the WSC Women’s Golf Championships at par-72 Olivas Park in Ventura.
Glendale captured WSC No. 8 with 316 strokes, followed by Canyons (318) and SBCC (322). The top two teams from the 36-hole tourney will advance to the Southern Cal Regional on Nov. 7-8.
Glendale (29-3) clinched a tie for the WSC season title. Santa Barbara is tied for third with a 13-19 record. SBCC had four players between 78 and 83 with Nicole Bullemer shooting 81 and Kristin Discipulo 83.
“I’m very, very pleased with our effort,“ said coach Chuck Melendez. “We came in very focused. We’re only four strokes away from a playoff spot and we can get there with a strong finish.“
The final round (and WSC No. 9) will be played Monday at Olivas Park, starting at 10:30 a.m.
