The unfamiliar territory of par-36 Olivas Links proved difficult for the San Marcos girls golf team and they lost 233-281 to Buena.
“It is often tough to play a new course, but we talked about taking our time and analyzing the course and playing conservatively,” head coach Shawn Ricci said. “I think the girls are getting much better at managing the play on the course as well as their mistakes.”
Buena’s Lizzie Barminski was the medalist with a score of 44. Melissa Jewkes and Emily Peterson led the Royals with scores of 45 and 49 respectively.
“I am again impressed and have a lot of confidence in… Melissa and Emily as they continue to be leaders on and off the course,” Ricci said. “They keep getting better and better.”
San Marcos will return to Santa Barbara Golf Club on Thursday to take on Orcutt Academy.
