SBCC linebacker Manny Hernandez has been named APC Defensive Player of the Week. It’s the third time he’s been honored in the last five weeks.
The 6-foot, 224-pound sophomore from San Marcos High had a season-high 17 tackles, including seven solo, and two for loss on Saturday against L.A. Pierce. He also forced a fumble and recovered it on the same play.
He’s averaging 14.1 tackles per game and is No. 1 in Southern California with 99 in seven games. His 36 solo tackles are tied for first in Southern Cal. He also has two sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles.
Hernandez, the state leader in tackles last year, has been honored as conference Player of the Week five times in the past two years.
The Vaqueros host L.A. Valley on Saturday at 6 p.m.
