STOCKTON – Kayla Hernandez and Laura Olvera each scored goals to lift Pacific to a 2-1 win over UCSB in a Big West soccer match on Friday night.
The Tigers (8-6-1 overall, 2-2-1 in league) got the best of the Gauchos (6-10-2, 1-5-0) early. With the match scoreless, Hernandez took a feed from Brittani Vaomba, raced up the pitch and pounded home the first tally of the contest at the 25:56 mark.
Pacific took a 2-0 lead in the second half. In the 53rd mnute, Pacific’s Olvera took a pass from Nydia Cabrera, cruised into the zone and scored from 15 yards out. The assist by Cabrera gave her team the win.
Senior Alyssa Benjamin, listed as a defender for much of her career, was shifted to forward and the move paid off. Benjamin scored the Gauchos lone goal in the 59th minute of the contest, and it was unassisted.
The Gauchos return to action on Sunday when they travel to UC Davis for a 1:00 pm match against the Aggies.
