It’s rivalry week for the Dos Pueblos golf team, and the Chargers took care of their first crosstown rival on Tuesday, beating San Marcos 237-289 at Santa Barbara Golf Club.
The Chargers play Santa Barbara on Wednesday with a chance to close in on the league title.
“This what high school sports is all about, rivalry matches that matter near the end of the season, ” DP coach Rob Schiff said. “We’re excited about it and I’m sure they are too. We’re looking forward to it.”
Vanesa Villa shot a match-best 40 and Hannah Nolan and Bekah Beveridge each fired 46 to pace DP.
Melissa Jewkes shot 42 to lead San Marcos.
“She is playing great for our team week in and week out,” San Marcos coach Shawn Ricci said of Jewkes, who had two birdies. “She is definitely an inspiration for the other girls to follow.
“Emily Peterson also played well with the exception of a few errant shots. She is continuing to hover around the low 50’s and will soon be consistently in the 40’s. Freshman Gabby Garcia is also continuing to play very consistent golf for our team.”
