The Santa Barbara High girls tennis team traveled to Orange County to play some of the best teams from across the country at the Dana Hills Tennis Coastal Championships. In its first match, Santa Barbara defeated Providence Day, the two-time defending state champions from North Carolina, but were unable to defeat Dana Hills in the following match.
The first match ended in a 6-2 victory for the Dons, and the second match finished in a 6-2 defeat.
The tournament used a different playing format than standard Channel League matches. The most notable difference is that the same players must play both singles and doubles games, which gave the advantage to more top-heavy teams.
Santa Barbara has been successful with a young and deep team throughout the season, and was unable to defeat Dana Hills, the second-ranked team in Division I CIF.
The Dons continue tournament play tomorrow against Palos Verdes in the consolation bracket.
