Santa Barbara celebrated its ascension to the No. 1 ranking in CIF Division 2 by beating crosstown rival San Marcos 16-2 to clinch a tie for it 31st straight Channel League girls tennis title on Tuesday.
The Dons (6-0, 11-4) didn’t lose a set in singles and the doubles team of Taryn Mjelde and Marianna Alevra went 3-0, taking their sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-2.
Santa Barbara can clinch the league title outright Wednesday with a win over Dos Pueblos. This weekend, the Dons head to Dana Hills to play in the prestigious Coastal Championships.
