Tugce Canitez led Westmont with 16 points in her Westmont debut on Saturday night, helping the Warriors to an easy 92-45 victory over La Sierra in Westmont’s season opener.
The Warriors, ranked No. 20 in the country to start the season, saw all 12 players score against the Golden Eagles. Westmont jumped out to a 15-2 lead from the opening tip and built the lead to 52-16 by halftime.

Vanessa Farias and Erin Beedle were also double-digit scorers. Farias tallied 14 points and Beedle 10. The Warriors’ top three scorers were a combined 16-for-25 from the field. All three started, joining Lisa Peterson and Katie Kittle.
Canitez, who added nine rebounds, is a junior college transfer from Turkey. The 6-foot-2 forward played at North Idaho Community College last season.
Tawny McCain nearly had a double-double for Westmont with eight points and 12 rebounds.
Natalia Hawthorne led La Sierra with a team-high 14 points.
Westmont (1-0) returns to action next weekend when they travel to Utah for a pair of games at the Westminster Classic.
