Emily Banas pounded 13 kills on Wednesday and Bianca Castro added 11 as SBCC rallied for a 3-1 women’s volleyball victory over Cuesta in San Luis Obispo. The scores were 18-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18.
Heidi Van Den Oever contributed eight kills and Rachel Stehly had six. Setter Mariah Mathews recorded 38 assists in the fourth straight win for the Vaqueros (6-8, 3-0), who are ranked 15th in Southern Cal and 24th in the state.
It was the first WSC North loss for Cuesta (6-5, 2-1).
“Our passing was a little shaky at the start,” said SBCC assistant coach Armen Zakarian. “We told them to weather the storm and we made some key adjustments that turned things around.
“Melissa Luke had double-digit digs and really steadied us in the back row. This was a big road win against an unbeaten conference team.”
The Vaqueros host L.A. Mission on Friday at 7 p.m.
