Westmont Volleyball (4-9, 3-2 GSAC) captured a Golden State Athletic Conference win as the Warriors defeated the Royals of Hope International (4-12, 0-5) on Thursday night in Fullerton.
The Warriors committed just three attack errors in first two sets as the cruised to 25-17 and 25-15 victories. Westmont hit .545 in the first set (19 of 33, 1 error) and .406 in the second set (15 of 32, 2 errors).
“Candace was running a nice, quick offense and the passing was good,” said Westmont head coach Patti Cook. “So, we were able to go to all three hitters when they were in the front row. Hope had a difficult time reading and putting up a block against us.”
The third set saw the Royals rally to claim a 25-17 win.
“I have to give credit to Hope,” said Cook. “They played well in the third game. Hope put one of their outside hitters, Naomi Iosia, in the middle and she started dominated the blocking. Once we figured it out in the fourth game, we were able to adjust our sets accordingly.”
Westmont went on to post a 25-18 win in the next frame to claim the match in four sets.
“Our outside hitters were once again phenomenal,” said Cook. “But in order for them to be phenomenal, it was our middles who took the pressure off of them. I want to congratulate our middles – Ciara Turner and Marie Trudelle on being offensive weapons that created holes for our outside hitters.”
Westmont returns to Murchison Gymnasium on Saturday night to take on #10 Biola (15-6, 3-2), start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
