SBCC dropped a pair of matches to top-ranked women’s volleyball teams on Saturday and finished fourth in the eight-team L.A. Pierce Brahma Invitational at Woodland Hills.
L.A. Pierce lived up to its top-ranked billing by sweeping the Vaqueros 25-11, 25-16, 25-15 in the semifinals. Pierce, the defending state champ, swept Golden West in the final to improve to 13-0.
In the third-place match, No. 5 Pasadena downed the Vaqueros for the second time this year 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-21). Santa Barbara (2-7) has lost to five teams ranked in the top eight in the state.
Emily Banas had five kills against Pierce and Bianca Castro collected six vs. Pasadena.
“Pierce is by far the No. 1 team in the state,” said coach Ed Gover. “They’re several levels above everyone else. In the Pasadena match, we had too many hitting errors.”
The Vaqueros will play at Bakersfield on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
