Jessica Domenichelli converted a sliding shot in the 12th minute and assisted on two other first-half goals Friday night as SBCC blanked L.A. Pierce 3-0 in its women’s soccer home opener at La Playa Stadium.
The Vaqueros, ranked No. 6 in the state and 13th in the nation, improved to 5-0 with their third shutout in a battle of unbeaten, nationally ranked teams. They’ve outscored their opponents 18-2.
Pierce (5-1-1) is ranked No. 9 in California and 11th nationally.
Domenichelli took a pass from Ali Raack and slipped the ball past the goalie in the 12th minute. Josefin Wallberg made it 2-0 with a 32-yard shot in the 25th minute.
Raack added a third goal in the 33rd minute with a left-footed blast from 21 yards that landed in the top left corner. Domenichelli, who had a school-record 25 goals last year, assisted on the last two scores.
“We were all 100 percent the whole game,” said Domenichelli, who hit the right post in the 61st minute. “We were playing together and playing smart.”
The Vaqueros outshot the visitors 20-15 and had several other solid scoring chances.
“I thought the girls were tremendous,” said coach John Sisterson. “They played some really attractive soccer against a good Pierce side that’s ranked 11th in the country.
“We scored three good goals and could have had more. If Jess had scored in the 61st minute, that would have been the goal of the year.”
The Vaqueros travel to Oxnard for their WSC North opener on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
