Jordan Tabor converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute on Tuesday afternoon to help SBCC earn a 1-1 tie with Rio Hondo in a men’s soccer match at Whittier. Duran Stanley was fouled in the box, leading to the third PK of the year by Tabor, a freshman from England.
The Vaqueros, ranked No. 5 in Southern Cal and No. 9 in the nation, went unbeaten in nonconference play (3-0-3) for the first time in John Sisterson’s five years as head coach.
Rio Hondo (1-2-3) scored in the 60th minute of a game that Sisterson said his team dominated. “It looked like we would win easily,” he stated. “Stanley was pulled down a few times in the (penalty) box and we should have had four or five PKs.
“We outshot them and we looked very comfortable. Our forwards, Stanley and Rodrigo Perez, were a handful.”
Perez hit a hard shot that caromed off the crossbar in the first half.
The Vaqueros open WSC play on Tuesday, Sept. 27 when they host Oxnard at 7:30 p.m.
