SBCC rebounded from its first men’s soccer loss to blank Glendale 2-0 on Friday night at La Playa Stadium.
The hometown Vaqueros (both teams are the Vaqueros), ranked No. 9 in the nation, improved to 4-1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Western State Conference.
Tony Mendoza, a freshman goalie from Dos Pueblos High, posted the first shutout of his college career.
Duran Stanley was pulled down in the box in the 31st minute and Jordan Tabor converted his fourth penalty kick of the year for the only score of the first half.
A.J. Beloff made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute on a 20-yard shot after a corner kick by Tabor. In the 70th minute, Stanley was pulled down again in the box but Tabor’s PK was denied by the keeper.
“We moved the ball well and looked comfortable,” said coach John Sisterson. “I thought Juan Diaz Casallas had a great game at right back and Ricardo Vazquez played well at center back.”
The Vaqueros travel to Hancock on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game.
