Members of the Santa Barbara Swim Club helped close out the 2011 season of Nite Moves on Wednesday with some top 10 finishes in the 1k swim at Leadbetter Beach.
Maelyn Adornetto, 14, was the female winner (11th overall) in 13:56 and teammate Olivia Smith, 13, was right behind her in 14:02.
Walker Bell, 14, finished third overall in 13 minutes, and Cuyler Gabriel, 14, and Ben Brewer, 13, were sixth and eighth, respectively.
Bell was the winningest swimmer of the NIte Moves Series, taking top honors in 11 of the 19 events. He and Smiith were named the series’ top male and female athletes in the 19-under division.
Adrienne Binder, the women’s winner of last Sunday’s Santa Barbara Triathlon sprint course, captured the 1k swim in 12:40. She was followed by Alex Valente (12:48).
Wednesday’s 5k run was won by former Marquette University distance standout Tommy Schmitz in 15:23. Schmitz has the distinction of being the first former Marquette runner to go under 4 minutes in the mile.
Locals Tyler Hansen (16:55) and Michael Smith (17:07) finished second and third in the 5k, and China Cisney was the first female finisher in 19:42.
In the swim-run aquathon, Jason Smith was the winner in 34:32. He was followed by Stepan Paul (36:34) and Carl Parker (36:45). Adrienne Hengels was the top woman in 38:28.
Other series award winners were Zack Paris and Samantha Jet in the 20-29 group; Jamie Haggar and Alethea Butler-Nalin for the 30-39; James Ballantine and Andrea Stouffer in the 40-49; Jim West and Elizabeth Cholawsky for the 50-59, and Joe Sullivan in the 60-under division.
