In a storybook opening, the first play of the first game at San Marcos’ new turf field was a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Andrew Thayer.
The Royals opened up a 24-0 lead before the game was delayed due to thunder and lightning with three minutes left to play.
Both coaches agreed to call the match and San Marcos earned their first victory of the season.
