The San Marcos High girls volleyball struggled against the competition at the San Luis Obispo tournament, and finished the day 0-4.
The Royals lost in two sets to Camarillo, Frontier, and Atascadero in pool play. They finished fourth in their group and played La Reina in a one-set match in the first game of the lower bracket. The closely contested match ended 25-21 in favor of La Riena.
“We had a lot of volleyball in a short amount of time and I think we needed that,” San Marcos head coach Erica Downing said.
The young team also had older players playing out of position due to injuries. Despite the tough day, sophomore Clare Holehouse was impressive and fueled the offense as a back setter. Marley Miller had an excellent day passing while filling in for the team’s injured libero.
SanMarcos plays next on Tuesday at Hart High in Santa Clarita.
Meanwhile the Dos Pueblos girls volleyball team is undefeated.
