San Marcos gave a lesson on pack running at the six-team Lompoc Invitational on Wednesday at Lompoc’r River Park.
The Royals girls grabbed the second through sixth spots to win team honors. Rocio Pacheco led the pack with a time of 19:21 over the 5k course. She was follwoed by Kaitlyn Kuehn (19:25), Annie Thwing (19:32), Jewell Fisher (19:38) and Julie Roman (19:44).
The race winner was Elizabeth Heyde of Arroyo Grande in 19:19.
In the boys race, San Marcos runners finished sixth through eighth place and won the team title with 44 points. Isaac Wright was the first Royal to hit the finish line in 16:45, nipping teammates Eric Salas (16:46) and Nicholas Swider (16:49).
Hayes Dunn of St. Joseph finished first in 15:27, and the Knights took second in the team standings.
