The Oxnard high girls golf team defeated Santa Barbara 221-240 at Birnam Wood Golf Club on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets’ Katie Rice was the medalist with a score of 39 in the preseason match.
“Birnam is a tough course with tough pin locations,” Dons head coach Ryan Throop said. “Oxnard is one of the better teams we’ll face all year.”
For Oxnard, Drew Thomas was one off her teammate’s medal-winning mark with a score of 40.
For Santa Barbara, sophomore Isabella Doub led with a score of 44 while Saralisa Ortega shot 46, Olivia Fanaro a 49, Alyssa Crane a 50, and finally Claudia Fanaro scored a 51.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow at River Ridge as Santa Barbara gears up for the start of Channel League play against Buena on September 22.
