Joshua Springs thumped Cate’s 8-man football team on Friday in the Rams’ season opener, pocketing a 48-0 non-league victory in Carpinteria.
Joshua Springs led 42-0 at halftime before scoring the second half’s first touchdown to trigger the mercy-rule. The visitors started the game by recovering an onsides kick and converting a touchdown on the game’s first offensive play.
“I know we’re going to get better down the road,” said Rams head coach Ben Soto, who is working with a bunch of new players after having a senior-laden team last season that only lost one game.
“They’re a good team,” Soto said of Joshua Springs, which is ranked No. 2 in their division. “They ran hard and had a shifty back.”
Cate (0-1) has a bye next week but returns to game action on September 24th.
