After waking up early Saturday morning and trekking to the Panther Invite in Portola Valley near San Jose, the Providence Hall girls volleyball team played close games against St. Thomas Moore and Pescadero, but went 0-4 at the tournament.
The team started its day against Woodside Priory, the tournament hosts, and lost in two sets. It then took St. Thomas Moore and Pescadero to three sets, but were unable to get a victory. Its final match was a rematch against St. Thomas Moore, which ended in a two-set defeat.
“I was proud how well they kept their focus and came out pumped up and ready to play,” head coach Laura Trudelle said.
The team’s youth and inexperience showed, as many of the girls were playing in their first ever tournament, Trudelle noted. But some of the younger players excelled during the long day of volleyball.
Freshman Dakota Niessen played nearly every position during the four games, and had an impressive all-around performance.
Providence Hall will play next at Grace Brethren on Tuesday.
