The Renegades, rated No. 22 in California, improved to 6-4 while the 25th-ranked Vaqueros fell to 2-8. Seven of the losses have been to teams ranked in the top 22.
Bianca Castro recorded seven blocks and four kills for Santa Barbara. Emily Banas led in kills with nine and Heidi Van Den Oever added eight.
“We were trying a new lineup,” said coach Ed Gover. “We looked good at times but its going to take some time. Playing Bakersfield in Bakersfield is always tough.”
The Vaqueros will host Citrus on Friday at 6 p.m. in their final nonconference match.
