The No. 17 San Diego women’s volleyball team had its way with UCSB in the opener of the San Diego Invitation on Friday night, sweeping the Gauchos.
Scores were 25-15, 25-18, 25-15.
The loss snaps the Gauchos’ four-match win streak. UCSB falls to 5-5 on the season. San Diego improves to 11-0.
Lily Lopez led Santa Barbara with seven kills and hit .333 on the evening. She also had four digs, a block assist and a solo block.
UCSB committed 21 hitting errors on the evening and hit .062. San Diego swung at a .275 clip.
Taylor Pischke had five kills for UCSB while Stacey Schmidt had four. Chelsey Lowe led the team with 13 digs and Hanna Nielson had 25 assists.
The Toreros tallied 9.0 team blocks and picked up 60 digs, constantly thwarting the Gauchos’ efforts.
UCSB will finish the tournament on Saturday when it faces Indiana and George Washington. The Gauchos then open Big West Conference play next weekend.
