Santa Barbara’s Lakey Peterson has made it to the big leagues of professional surfing.
Peterson has earned one the coveted 17 spots on the ASP Women’s World Tour for 2012. The World Tour is the elite professional competition for women.
Peterson learned of the selection on Wednesday. She will be one of four rookies on the tour, and the youngest competitor — she turns 17 this week.
The other rookies will be Malia Manuel, 18, of Hawaii; Sage Erickson, 20, of the U.S. and Justine Dupont, 20, of France. Erickson and Peterson will join sophomore competitor Courtney Conlogue as three Californians on tour.
Peterson is coming off a third-place finish at the ASP 6-Star Billabong Girls Azores Islands Pro.
The first stop on the 2012 ASP Women’s World Tour will be the Roxy Pro Gold Coast in Australia.
