Laguna Blanca’s eight-man football team hit the ground running on in their season-opener with four rushing touchdowns from four different players on their way to 46-8 blowout against Westmark. Westmark’s only score came in the first quarter while Laguna Blanca lit up the scoreboard throughout the game.
Quarterback Brandon Bickett was 6-11 for 126 yards in the passing game, and threw two touchdowns to Logan Elder who had three catches for 84 yards. Bickett also led the team with 68 rushing yards and a touchdown. Elder also scored off a handoff, as did Joey Ekert and Brian Miguel.
“[We] spread the ball around on offense allowing a lot of players to get ‘touches’ and keep Westmark guessing,” head coach Ray Robitaille said.
The defense was aggressive and active as Elder and Miguel each had two interceptions, and Elder also had a pair of fumble recoveries.
Laguna Blanca (1-0) will try to carry the momentum gained from their first game into next Saturday’s road match-up with Valley Christian Academy.
