In a pressure-packed one-set quarterfinal match at the Laguna Blanca Tournament, the host Owls defeated Bishop Diego 25-16.
Bishop Diego went 2-1 in pool play at the Page Youth Center and finished second in its group. The Cardinals defeated both Malibu and Santa Clarita Christian in two sets, and lost to Viewpoint in two sets.
Coach Jason Donnelly cited the strong play of senior setter Nicole Tetherow and junior middle blocker Emily Lash.
Laguna Blanca fell to Viewpoint in the semifinals, 25-21. The Owls got good play from outside hitters Amanda Harvey and McKenzie Scarborough. Harvey was named to the all-tournament team.
Laguna Blanca went 5-1 in pool play.
Carpinteria struggled in pool play, but the Warriors bounced back in the consolation playoffs and won two of three matches.
