Dani Rottman was force for Santa Barbara and Haley Fuller played a solid match in the back row to help Santa Barbara beat visiting Royal, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, in the Dons’ season-opening girls volleyball match on Thursday.
“I thought it was a good performance by us,” said Dons’ coach John Gannon. “We’re working in new players. I’m excited the season is here. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to improve over the course of the month.”
Fuller is one of the new players that stood out in the opener.
“It was her first start on the varsity,” Gannon said. “She played great defensively and did well passing. Her all-around game shone as a senior. She did a great job.”?
Royal couldn’t contain Rottman. She hammered 14 kills and hit .500. Holland Crenshaw and Remi Pulice bolstered the Dons’ attack with 11 and 8 kills, respectively.
Santa Barbara is back in action at home on Friday at 6:30 against Newbury Park.
