Jake Roberts hauled in two touchdown receptions for the Dos Pueblos football team on Friday night, but it was a defensive reception for the visiting San Luis Obispo Tigers that pushed them out of reach in a 36-23 non-league decision at Scott O’Leary Field.
San Luis Obispo’s Jack Ferguson intercepted a pass on the first play of the fourth quarter and returned it for a touchdown, giving the Tigers a 30-17 advantage. It also gave SLO its first 2-score lead of the night after a back-and-forth first three quarters. Jacob Flores scored on a 1-yard plunge a few minutes later to put the game out of reach.
Roberts’ second touchdown – a 36-yard pass from quarterback Armando Arzate – tied the game at 17-17 with 7:34 in the third quarter. Roberts’ first score came on a pass from running back Josh Bartley in the second quarter. That also tied the game at 7-7 after the Tigers went up in the first quarter on a Garret Giovannelli scramble.
A Trevor McGuire touchdown gave SLO the lead again in the second quarter 14-7. Nico Bornand made it 14-10 with a field goal but his counterpart Tanner Kahn made it 17-10 with a kick of his own just before halftime.
Anthony Spiritosanto scored Dos Pueblos’ final touchdown.
The loss sends the Chargers to 0-2 on the season while the Tigers even their record at 1-1. SLO’s offense is averaging 38 points a game so far this season.
Dos Pueblos moves on to face Cabrillo, which manhandled the team DP lost to last week, Righetti, 34-14 on Friday.
