The Cate School girls tennis team was unable to make a final push in a close match against St. Bonaventure and lost 11-7 at Ventura College.
“We’re a tad rusty this early in the season but we’ll be extremely competitive as we work our way into our matches,” head coach Barbara DeGroot said. “We’re fortunate to be returning all three of our singles players and senior co-captain Lela Puckett.”
Puckett and freshman Kate Dehlendorf formed the top doubles team for the Rams and won two of their three matches. The other doubles teams of Caitlin Cain/Kailin Jones and Jean Shen/Miaya Roddick Fuller each earned one victory.
Mady Snider, Marina Narain and Margarite Mannix all went 1-2 in the singles matches.
Cate (1-1) continues their season at home on Friday against San Marcos.
